Safe Dating Post Internet

The last post we want to make regarding internet dating and safety, regards the point where the internet finishes, and real dating starts. 

Many people think that when you meet someone online, its a chance to get to know them without any risk.  WRONG.  All internet dating is, is a chance to screen people before meeting them.  Remember, it does not matter if you have been chatting with someone online for 1 week, 1 month or even 1 year, it is entirely possible that the person you have been communicating with has been putting on a show, a facade.  You will never start to know someone until you start dating them properly, off line, in the real world.  This is particularly so the case with people you meet on Adult Dating Sites

So when you meet someone in real life, that you found online, take all the precautions you would normally take for a blind date.  Ie. Meet in a public place, let people know where you will be, have an exit strategy, start safe and get to know the person gradually.

We’ve all seen in popular TV shows like CSI what can go wrong.  Make sure you take the precautions you should, so you don’t end up as the inspiration behind another episode.

Safe Dating – What Sites Do You Use

The second post in our focus on safety, when dating online, regards the dating sites themselves.  Many sites, by their nature attract miscreants.  They attract predator women who are after you wallet, or predator men who can threaten your personal safety.  Adult dating sites are particularly prone to these issues.  We have written an article about the risks of adult dating, which you can view here: Risks of Adult Dating

So we strongly recommend you research your dating sites before you spend money on them.  Make sure there are real life people there, and you are being introduced to people who are into the same thing as you… meeting people.  Our dating site reviews are a great place to start, but do your own research too.

Internet Dating and Safety

For the next few posts, we are going to concentrate on putting safety first when using internet dating sites. 

The most important thing you need to keep in mind, is internet dating is NOT dating.  All internet dating is, is an introduction.  It is a method of meeting people.  Sure, all internet dating sites offer email services, private chat rooms, IM and other methods of communicating with potential dates, but using these is not a method of getting to know someone.  These should be seen simply as an initial screening process. A way to form an opinion about whether you want to meet someone.

Remember, with all forms on “online” communication, a person has an ability to think about the response they are going to give.  This gives them the ability to role play or present a facade of being someone other than the person they are.

So treat internet dating as a screening process, and treat the first date as a first date.  Even if you have been “chatting” to someone online for months, the precautions and safety mechanisms you apply to your first meeting with this person should be the same as you would apply to any “blind” date.  Put safety first, and success will come.
