Internet Dating; Making Dating Fun Again

There is a lot of advice and information about internet dating out there.  Trying to digest it all can be quite difficult, and even scary if you get caught up in too much of the “What can go wrong” type of information out there.  As such, in this article we are going to try and give you some internet dating tips that make things easy again.  After all, all you are trying to do is meet some people.  It should be fun, not scary or confusing.  So here are our top 3 top internet dating tips:

1. Before you start dating online, there are 2 things you need to think about. Firstly, think about the qualities you are looking for in your partner.  Secondly, think about the experience you are looking for.  When reflecting on these 2 things, try to do it on your own, without accepting advice from anyone.  Many people are full of advice about what you want, what type of people are right for you and what experiences are ok to have.  The problem is that these people’s opinions more reflect what is right for them, not what is right for you.  So if you listen to them, rather than yourself, you are starting your dating process by looking for a date and experience that is suitable for someone else.  Listen to yourself, and be true to yourself.  You’ll be ok.  Specific dates and relationships may not work, but this is your journey to have, they are your mistakes and successes to have, and your experiences to learn from, laugh and cry about.

2. When you know what type of person and experience you are looking for, go to a dating site which specifically addresses those qualifications.  There are many dating sites out there which cater to specifics so you can dramatically increase your chances of dating success, by starting with a dating site which pre-qualifies your potential dates along the lines of the qualities you are looking for.  You don’t have to go to a general dating site where it is much more hit and miss.  We have reviewed dating sites in many different categories to help you with this.  Some examples include:

Always be safe.  There is a natural progression with online dating.  You start with the dating site, then you swap emails, then phone numbers and then arrange to meet.  Your first meeting should be in a public place with lots of people, and maybe some friends in the background somewhere, to keep an eye on things.  After that first meeting you are no longer internet dating, so your experience should progress along the same lines as any developing relationship.  Never escalate to a stage with someone that you are not yet comfortable with or don’t feel safe with.  This means don’t give your email address or phone number to someone who hasn’t won your confidence on the dating site.  Following that, don’t meet someone who has not made you feel comfortable when communicating by email or phone.  Finally, never meet someone privately when they did not make you feel safe in the public meeting.  This all sounds like common sense, but it is always harder when you are in the middle of it and getting pressured by the person on the other end, so be strong.
